Rev. Chuck Freeman has been a UU Minister in Austin since 1996. He has served our District in many capacities including the District Board & the Adult Program Director of SWUUSI. He presented the 2005 Sunset Talks at SWUUSI on spiritual activism titled “A Shrewd Awakening.” He is past President of our District UU Ministers Association chapter.
Chuck was among the founding Ministers of the Texas Freedom Network with Cecile Richards in 1995. He is the first & only UU to be full time on the Board of Texas Impact. Rev. Freeman has helped shape the Texas Impact Legislative Agenda for the past 5 years having participated in numerous events & rallies.
Since 2004 he has been very active in spiritual activism via his radio show Soul Talk, blogging, and preaching all over our Southwest district. His sabbatical in 2008 was focused on spiritual activism. Chuck spent a month in D.C. meeting with the likes of Jim Wallis’ Sojourners staff & Welton Gaddy President of Interfaith Alliance.
He participated in four Netroots Nation conferences which is the premier yearly gathering of over 2,000 new media progressive activists. He was a panelist on the 2009 Netroots Nation workshop “A New Progressive Vision for Church & State.” Chuck has been published nationally in the Washington Post “On Faith” blog & numerous times on the Huffington Post. Locally his pieces have appeared in the Austin American Statesman, and Austin’s NPR station KUT. He is a regular faith columnist for the Hill Country News in Cedar Park.
